The Aiken Horse recently gave the New Holland Fire Department a couple of sets of pet oxygen masks. The oxygen masks, which cost $75 for a set of three (they are reusable) came from Waggin 02 Fur life. They are specially designed to help resuscitate animals that may need oxygen after being in a burning building. Masks designed for people don’t fit well on dogs and cats, but these masks, which come in several sizes, fit dogs, cats, and even kittens and birds. You can find out more about them here: www.petoxygenmasks.org.
We brought Dora the Rescue Dog along with us to the fire station. Dora came to us from Greenville County where she was in the shelter. She was there because the house she was living in burned down. Her family couldn’t keep her and she ended up on the “Urgent Dog List” which is where I found her. We sent in her adoption application less than two hours before her last call. You can read some of her story here.
The Aiken Standard came and did a story about our donation, which you can read here:
And then WJBF also came and shot a piece about the masks, which you can see here:
We also wrote a little bit about it in the February-March 2014 issue of The Aiken Horse. You can find it at the end of News and Notes, on page 30.
